This study aimed to design and evaluate a Mentimeter-supported ProblemBased Learning (PBL) instructional model to enhance intercultural competence in a large undergraduate Cross-Cultural Management course at a private university. A quasiexperimental design was employed with 186 undergraduate BBA international students, equally assigned to an experimental group (n = 93) and a control group (n = 93). The experimental group received a five-stage Mentimeter-supported PBL intervention, while the control group was taught through traditional lecture-based instruction. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test intercultural competence measures, student engagement indicators, Mentimeter participation records, and expert validation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests, ANCOVA, correlation, and regression analysis.
The results showed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher post-test intercultural competence scores than the control group across all measured dimensions (all p < .001), and these differences remained significant after controlling for pre-test performance. Participation frequency was ubstantially higher in the experimental group than in the control group (M = 58.903 vs. 8.516) and was strongly correlated with post-test intercultural competence (r = .921, p < .001). Regression analysis further showed that participation frequency significantly predicted post-test intercultural competence (B = 0.029, β = .921, p < .001, R² = .848). These findings indicate that the Mentimeter-supported PBL model effectively improved student participation and intercultural competence and provides support for the use of interactive presentation technology as a scalable instructional approach in large multicultural business classrooms.
