This research is mixed method. The objectives of this research were as follows: 1) to study the current condition and expected condition of development of sustainable accounting teachers' professional competency in higher vocational colleges in Shaanxi Province; 2) to develop the strategies for sustainable accounting teachers' professional competency in higher vocational colleges in Shaanxi Province; 3) to evaluate the feasibility and adaptability of the development of strategies for sustainable accounting teachers' professional competency in higher vocational colleges in Shaanxi Province. The sample group of this study includes 186 teachers who participated in the questionnaire survey, 10 experts who were interviewed, and 5 experts who conducted strategy evaluation. The value of IOC was 1.00. The reliability of the questionnaire was obtained using Conbach's Alpha coefficient, with a reliability of 0.868 and a validity of 0.820. The research tools include:
1) Questionnaire; 2) Interview; 3) SWOT and TOWS analysis; 4) Evaluation form. The statistical methods used to analyze the data include percentage, mean, standard deviation, Modified Priority Needs Index (PNImodified) and content analysis.
The results revealed that: 1) The current condition of accounting teachers' professional competency all of which were moderate and the expected were high. 2) The proposed sustainable development strategy comprises four domains — theoretical knowledge, work skills, work attitude, and professional ethics, and includes 45 specific measures. 3) Evaluation results indicate that the strategies are the highest feasible and adaptable. The research recommends that education reform policies should be supported to promote the transformation of teaching methods. This includes providing training in teaching skills and the application of new technologies, implementing new teaching methods that enable students to apply knowledge in practice, fostering a proactive work attitude among students in an ever-changing external society, and emphasizing professional ethics to promote lifelong learning.
