Strategies for enhancing foreign language teachers’ research competence at universities in Guangxi: An educational administration perspective

he objectives of this research were: 1) to analyze the current situation of
foreign language teachers’ research competence at universities in Guangxi, 2) to formulate strategies for enhancing foreign language teachers’ research competence at universities in Guangxi, and 3) to evaluate the suitability and feasibility of strategies for enhancing foreign language teachers’ research competence at universities in Guangxi.
The sample group included 313 foreign language teachers from 23 public
undergraduate universities in Guangxi. The research instruments involved: 1) a
questionnaire, 2) focus group discussions, and 3) an evaluation form. The data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and content analysis. The results showed that: 1) the overall level of foreign language teachers’ research competence at universities in Guangxi was medium. 2) Strategies for enhancing foreign language teachers’ research competence at universities in Guangxi have been proposed for all five dimensions, totaling 28 strategies. There are 6 strategies for enhancing skills in reviewing the state of research, 5 for enhancing methodological skills, 4 for enhancing skills in reflecting on research findings, 8 for enhancing communication skills, and 5 for enhancing content knowledge. 3) The results of the suitability and feasibility of the strategies were at a high level.
